The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) offers an annual college scholarship program to help further higher education among rural youth. FRS awards 30 one-time $2,500 scholarships to students from rural America for their first year of college, university or vocational-technical school. Each student is sponsored by a National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) member. This scholarship is available to any graduating senior who receives their local telecommunications service from XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. Their landline telephone number must begin with 377, 384, 727, 769, 343, 753 or 362.
An application for the FRS Scholarship Program is available each October for the following year’s program. Applications must be postmarked to FRS by March 1st of each year and winners are announced by May 1st of that year. XIT Management will need to sign off on the FRS applications before it is mailed in by the student. Completed applications should be sent directly to FRS. Additional information and applications can be accessed at www.frs.org.
